it's coming down in buckets
it overflows the storm drain
rolling down the hills
flooding everything
it even tops sex scandals on the news
it's the rain
slows you down
keeps you inside looking out
you cannot stop it if you try
at sandbags and plastic wrap it laughs
and moves on if there's enough of it
we've tried everything
we never get enough until there's too much
run for cover
see the canyons gushing down
feel the fury on the ground
oh it's the rain
slowing everybody down

it mocks us when we ask it to stop we've had enough
the plants are beyond green
the ground has turned to mud
